This report assesses the extent of racial and/or ethnic disparities in the severity of sentencing of drug offenders in Washington State, including the use of sentencing alternatives, and examines some possible explanations for the differences that exist. This report also provides evidence that race and ethnicity continue to affect the sentencing of drug offenders in Washington State for both severity of the sanction and the use of alternative sanctions.
