Analyzes two judicial systems in the Southwest and their responses to domestic violence in Latino families. Assessment of Latino cultural values that might affect family violence and offer insight into effective responses. Describes the special circumstances and pressures of Latina women that affect her ability to report or leave an abusive situation. Problems encountered by the court are discussed and possible solutions, different steps for determining the severity of the offense, and the potential consequences for the justice system. Examines the strengths and weaknesses of each system. Appendix contains three teaching scenarios with questions.
